Dog Meat Records

My Dog Meat Records site – my project – took its first step in public just minutes ago. The page here is basically going to serve as the entrance – the title and image are the same as the proposed cd which will be out later in the year.

The band in the photo if anyone is interested is a late ’70s Boston band called the Real Kids. They’re one of my all time favorite bands and I was lucky enough to release a couple of 7″ singles of rare/unreleased material by them in the mid-’90s. The guy in the middle – in the striped t-shirt – is John Felice, who was originally a member of seminal Boston band the Modern Lovers – he was in the band for virtually it’s entire existence (he grew up next door to Jonathan Richman) but doesn’t appear on their hugely influential self-titled album because he was still in school and not able to fly out to California with the band to record. So his role in the band has almost been written out of history. If you get a chance to hear the Real Kids’ first album – it’s self-titled and has been re-issued on Norton Records – it’s one of the greatest rock’n’roll records of all time.

Oh yeah, and the guys on the left and right hand side – the guy on the ground – aren’t actually in the band…
